Steak dinner

Pan cooked ribeye steak with butter and garlic; mushrooms; wine braised leeks with wine reduction sauce; sauteed wild ramps with potatoes.

We love to eat out, but we also like to cook. Cooking helps me appreciate food more, whether eaten at home or in a restaurant, and it's a great non-computer related activity. I like to pick out all of my ingredients and I appreciate that I have different places from which I can buy them. There's the greenmarket, the butcher and the fish and cheese mongers. More often than not I end up at Whole Foods - not that that's a bad thing. No one at the greenmarket carries leeks, salad greens at the greenmarket are really expensive, and I didn't want to trek over to Sunrise Market just for wasabi powder (but that was for another dish). I'll be very curious to see if Trader Joe's opens in the East Village.

Leeks braising in butter and red wine with black peppercorns, rosemary, and a bay leaf.

Ramp stems waiting for the pan.

Sliced red potatoes going into the fry pan with oil, salt, and rosemary.

Ramp leaves and crimini mushrooms drying out.
